Tribology India Limited was established in 1984 by Sundaram Industries Limited of the TVS Group in collaboration with HEF, France. In the last four decades, Tribology India has grown into a technology leader in Surface modification to combat wear and corrosion.
Several proprietary processes have been developed by the strong Research and Development Team to enhance surface properties of engineering components.
TIL is a company with a difference. From offering critical inputs and value-added service to the industry, TIL has diversified into a variety of areas starting with manufacturing of surface treatment chemicals, work holding devices (soft jaws) .
It has now moved into areas like magnetic water treatment and size reduction of rubber.
The aim of the company was to provide products, processes and technical services to extend life and improve performance of the engineering components.
The foundation of the company was built on vast knowledge acquired over four decades TIL had started manufacturing specialized Surface treatments salts for over a decade. These salts which are used in liquid form have the highest efficiency and lowest consumption of any other competitive salt.
Recently, TIL has started venturing into various magnetic effects on water. TIL has started using patented technology to manufacture highly efficient magnetic water treatment and conditioning machines.
The Descalogy™ technology-based machines replace the highly polluting chemicals which are presently used in HVAC systems. Being green technology, TIL can help industries in saving a lot of money spent on pollution mitigation, wastage of water and continuous expenses on treatment-chemicals.
TIL has also expanded into size reduction of waste rubber. This is the recycling technology aimed at helping the environment.

The company has been manufacturing Work holding devices, particularly soft jaws used in CNC turning centres since 1998. In the steel variety, it is cold drawn, heat treated and precision machined. They are manufactured to suit the stringent requirements of the American market.
Soft jaws are made in different shapes and sizes. TIL also makes jaws in different shapes and sizes to suit the demand. Materials used for the jaws are, Steel, Aluminium or cast iron.
The company is equipped with machine shop to manufacture of Pie or Round jaws and straight jaws made from different materials as mentioned above. The company is geared up to produce 500 sets per month, but this can be scaled up, based on demand.
The surface treatment salts are entirely manufactured in house from specialized raw materials. Sievers, blenders and reactors are used for this purpose. The company has capacity to manufacture up to 50 tons per month running on a single shift, but can expend to three shifts if the demand arises.
